ICS Learn Case Study: Swindon College | Online CIPD Courses

Teresa Whatmore, HR Advisor at Swindon College, built her confidence, knowledge and key skills through studying a CIPD diploma online with us.

My name is Teresa Whatmore and I’m an HR Advisor at Swindon College, studying the CIPD Level 3 Foundation Certificate in People Practice with ICS Learn.

My colleague who worked in staff development found this course, and knew it would be perfect for me as I have a young family and my partner worked shifts.

It was not was possible for me to attend evening or weekend classes. I could fit online study around my family life and work in my own time at evening, weekends and lunchtimes at work.

I chose this course as it was applicable to continue my career within HR and was relevant to my current role.  

I found studying online was better for me to fit around my current work and family life.

The ICS Learn system was very easy to navigate; the support and feedback from the tutor that you receive is invaluable.

With no formal qualification in HR and only 11 years’ experience I wanted to have a formal qualification to benefit me within my career if other opportunities came about.

I have not completed any assignments in many years and it was a bit daunting, but it was something I wanted to complete and show I can do. ICS Learn helped by giving me the support.

Even if I got something, wrong my tutors helped and suggested different ways of doing it. The online classrooms were always a real help too.

The tutors were always on hand to help with queries and when submitting assignments. The feedback they give was always helpful and they offered advice to keep within word count as sometimes that is a struggle! 

My current role is an HR Advisor, and this has helped in me in so many ways with employment law and learning and development.

I can do the things I thought I could not do, like a recorded session with my colleagues on learning and development which was previously out of my comfort zone!   

It has given me confidence within my team that I can take on new challenges and know I can do it, as I have not done anything academic since leaving school so completing assignments was all new for me! 

I would definitely recommend ICS Learn for the support and the flexibility it gives you.

The student community is really useful to use and to ask for advice from fellow students who are going through it as well!
