CIPD Student Stories: Cara Beard | CIPD Level 5 Diploma

Cara wanted to advance her career so she decided to study the CIPD Level 5 Diploma with us. Find out more about her journey.

I am currently working as an HR operations administrator at a global law firm. This is my first HR role. I started studying towards my Level 5 CIPD Diploma with ICS Learn in September 2022. I thought that this level would be best for me, as I already have a BSc degree. I completed the course in less than 7 months, and that was a major achievement for me!

I wanted to study with ICS Learn as I needed flexibility. I work full-time, so I needed a provider that would allow me to complete my coursework at my own pace.

As I graduated during the pandemic, the last couple of years of my degree were online, so I was somewhat used to online learning and found online learning very easy and accessible. Although I was a bit worried, as I hadn’t done any coursework/studying since completing my degree a couple of years ago, I easily got back into the swing of things!

The support I received at ICS Learn was excellent. You have module tutors and also a dedicated student support team to help you with any course-related or general questions you may have.

I never had to wait long for anyone to get back to me with my queries, and they were helpful and supportive.

I think this qualification has helped me with my HR career. Although not all of the content was directly related to my job, getting an understanding for the theoretical side of HR certainly made me more confident at work, whether that would be addressing employees directly or during a weekly team meeting. I hope in the next few years to have started working towards the Level 7 qualification.
