AAT Student Stories: Kieran Rowe | AAT Level 2 Certificate

My current job is as a customer service accounts advisor at Hammond’s based in Hinckley, Leicestershire. Before this, I spent a short time as a membership coordinator at LNPG (Landlords' National Purchasing Group).

I chose to study an AAT Level 2 Certificate in Accounting after I had a small taste of working in accounts as an accounts payable administrator at Holland and Barrett a few years ago. Ever since my time came to an end there, I have always thought about pursuing a career in finance.

Now, a few years down the line, I have seen what a massive change this course can make for my career and future, so in September of this year, I decided to pull the trigger and sign up for the course.

I chose ICS Learn as they offer the option to study from home in your own time which is highly beneficial to me as I work full-time Monday to Friday.

The option to pay for the course and AAT membership over 12 months was also ideal as I I was not in the position to pay it in full straightaway.

When it came to signing up and going down the online learning route, I did have my reservations about it and I was unsure if I could make it work around my job and personal life.

After creating a timetable that suits me, however, I found it really easy to fit the course around things I love doing without stressing. The exams are set throughout the year so I can pick and chose when to sit the exam which is easier for me.

As I have only been on my course for a short time, I have not really made a big dent in my studies just yet, however, I'm already learning all new aspects of maths and different ways of working out equations which will benefit me in the future.

I have not really spoken to my tutor yet, as mentioned above I am relatively new to the course. Andrea has said hello and explained what she can do and the support she will provide for me throughout my course. As my course progresses, I am sure I will be in contact with Andrea for help and guidance with my course.

While I'm unsure on my plans for the future, I would like to think that at this time in 18 months I would like to be at a company working in finance and studying for an AAT Level 3 qualification. 

I would recommend ICS learn just based on the simplicity of the signing up process and the option of studying from home as and when you like.

The prices are a lot less than the local college by a significant amount also you can pay monthly with no interest…which is a win-win!
