David Sims | ILM Level 2 Certificate in Leadership and Team Skills

David was sceptical about online learning having had previously bad experiences. However, two promotions later, he's keen to share how the ILM Level 2 Certificate in Leadership and Team Skills has boosted his career drastically!

Before I started learning the ILM level 2 Certificate in Leadership and team skills, my job title was '2nd line IT technician’ and I worked in a relatively small company (about 40 staff).

I was very sceptical about online courses as in the past, I have had bad experiences and feel I didn’t really get a lot out of them.

I stumbled across ICS learn whilst researching courses and the reviews were all amazing. I took a chance and enrolled onto the leadership course with them and it has been one of the best decisions I have made.

Shortly after enrolling, I was given access to the main hub with my course material on which, from an IT point of view is very well made. The resources I was given access to are fantastic and have made learning new skills, enjoyable.

My tutor Lesley introduced themselves to me and has been on hand giving me feedback on my assignments if they felt I could have done something better. Very professional, constructive feedback which has made me a better leader and manager.

At the time of writing, I am currently only halfway through my course however, with the skills I have learned so far, I have already been promoted to ‘Technical Team Leader’ with a considerable increase in pay.

Fast forward a few months, I'm continuing to put my learnings into practice and I see the role of 'Support Manager' become available in my company, I decided to apply for it, with nothing to loose! To my amazement, I was offered the position, which means that while only half way through this course, I've already been promoted twice! 

I have no doubt in my mind that once I have finished this course in its entirety, I would have gained the skills to be able to obtain a much higher paid job in a bigger company. The skills I have been learning has opened my eyes to the bigger picture of a company and gets me thinking and questioning areas I would’ve never thought about previously. I cannot thank ICS learn more for the career boost.

If anyone is on the fence about enrolling onto a course or not, I highly recommend they go for it.

I am 50% of the way through my course and I have been promoted twice and have had a pay increase of more than double the salary I was on before enrolling, purely on the skills I have learnt so far on this course. 10 out of 10.
